How It All Started
It all started with bagels.
Benjamin's Bakery started with a simple idea back in 1994. Owner and founder Lee Zulanch and his father, former Long Islanders, understood the growing popularity of New York-style bagels and realized the Grand Strand was "under-bagled." The idea of establishing a bagel shop quickly became their passion.
Named after Lee's oldest son, Benjamin's Bagel Bakery opened in the fall of 1994 to immediate success fronted by a bagel shop and deli where you could get breakfast, lunch, fresh-baked bagels, deli meats, and a great cup of coffee. As the business grew, Benjamin's expanded to include breads, rolls, buns, pastries, and specialty items.

As local restaurants ordered Benjamin's delicious bagels in increasing volumes, many began asking Lee for his fresh-baked breads, rolls, and buns requiring more production output, a larger bakery, and new equipment. Today, you can find Benjamin's baked goods in over 100 area restaurants and shops.

Fresh Local Coffee
In 2018, Lee sensed another opportunity the need for a local coffee roaster to deliver to Grand Strand restaurants and retailers the freshest coffee possible. He purchased a top-of-the-line Dietrich IR12 12-kilogram roaster, immersed himself in the science of roasting, and started delivering the area's freshest cup.
Benjamin's now has two roasters and is the largest coffee roaster on the Grand Strand.
Our Milestones
30 Years in the Making
Benjamin's Bagels founded by Lee Zulanch and his father on the Grand Strand.
Moved into a larger building with a new retail cafe, rebranding as Benjamin's Bakery & Cafe.
Launched on-premise coffee roasting, becoming the Grand Strand's largest local roaster.
Celebrated our 30th Anniversary still baking, still roasting, still growing.
